Reduced excretion of a melatonin metabolite in workers exposed to 60 Hz magnetic fields
Article Abstract:
Reduced excretion of a melatonin metabolite, 6-hydroxymelatonin sulfate, has been found in workers exposed to 60-Hz magnetic fields (EMFs) in the workplace. A study on effects of this kind of EMF and of ambient light exposures on the pineal hormone, melatonin, were studied in 142 male electric utility workers over three days in 1995-96. Melatonin suppression may be useful for understanding human biologic responses to EMFs. Those with high ambient light exposure showed negligible EMF effects.

Methylmercury exposure biomarkers as indicators of neurotoxicity in children aged 7 years
Article Abstract:
Methylmercury exposure biomarkers in 917 seven-year-old children of the Faroe Islands, 1993-94, are discussed as indicators of neurotoxicity. Findings show usefulness of cord-blood mercury concentration data as a main risk indicator and support the idea that the greatest susceptibility to this kind of neurotoxicity is in late gestation, with time-dependent susceptibility perhaps different for different brain functions.
