Referring adult patients for orthodontic treatment
Article Abstract:
Dentists should feel comfortable referring their adult patients for braces. More than half of all adults have some degree of malocclusion, which occurs when the upper teeth do not meet the lower teeth. Many adults believe braces are only for children or are concerned about social acceptance. However, adults who have braces report only one or two days of pain and only 20% reported being embarrassed in social situations.

Early orthodontic treatment: what are the imperatives?
Article Abstract:
Some children may benefit from early orthodontic treatment but others may not. Early orthodontic treatment involves treating the child without placing the brackets and bands of traditional braces. Children with Class III malocclusions may definitely benefit from early treatment. However, treatment of Class II malocclusions is equally effective whether done earlier or later.

Hypodontia as a risk marker for epithelial ovarian cancer: a case-controlled study
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to establish the prevalence rates of hypodontia among subjects with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and control subjects. Findings show that the prevalence of hypodontia was 3% for control subjects and 20% for EOC subjects. The results imply that women with EOC are 8.1 times more likely to have hypodontia than those who do not have the disease.
