Rehabilitation of Persons With Traumatic Brain Injury: Consensus Development Panel on Rehabilitation of Persons With Traumatic Brain Injury
Article Abstract:
An NIH Consensus Development Panel discusses methods for rehabilitating people with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). TBI occurs at the rate of 100 cases for every 100,000 people and kills about 50,000 people each year. Car accidents, sports injuries, falls and acts of violence are the most common causes of TBI. TBI may cause life-long problems with physical, intellectual and social functioning. An estimated 2.5 million to 6.5 million people suffer the consequences of TBI. Because there is no cure for TBI and it exacts such a heavy toll on those injured, prevention is the best option.
