Course of viral load throughout HIV-1 infection
Article Abstract:
The risk of death from AIDS is low when viral load is low, but increases rapidly as viral RNA levels rise. This was the conclusion of researchers who followed hemophiliacs who were infected with HIV for up to 17 years.

Serum beta2-microglobulin at HIV-1 seroconversion as a predictor of severe immunodeficiency during 10 years of followup
Article Abstract:
High blood levels of beta2-microglobulin shortly after the initial infection with HIV may predict those who will develop AIDS sooner. This was the conclusion of a study of 63 hemophiliac men who had blood analyses on a regular basis following their infection with HIV. Almost twice as many men with beta2-microglobulin levels of 3 milligrams per liter (mg/l) or more had progressed to AIDS 10 years later as those with beta2-microglobulin levels less than 2 mg/l. Beta2-microglobulin is a substance produced by activated T cells. HIV-infected people with high levels could be given early treatment.

Relation between soluble CD30 levels measured soon after HIV seroconversion and disease progression in men with hemophilia
Article Abstract:
This is a discussion of 85 hemophiliac men coinfected with HIV and hepatitis C with attention to measurement of high CD30 levels. It is not known yet if the high CD30 levels have anything to do with rate of HIV progression.
