Long-term MI Outcomes at Hospitals With or Without On-site Revascularization
Article Abstract:
Medical researchers should be careful when comparing the outcomes of patients in two or more different hospitals. In a study of 25, 697 heart attack patients, mortality rates were similar in patients who had access to immediate revascularization procedures and those who did not. This could be a result of differences between patient groups rather than any advantage of revascularization.

Relationship Between Annual Volume of Patients Treated by Admitting Physician and Mortality After Acute Myocardial Infarction
Article Abstract:
Heart attack patients are more likely to survive if they are treated by a doctor who has experience treating heart attack patients. This was the conclusion of a study of 98,194 heart attack patients treated by 5,374 doctors.

Effects of socioeconomic status on access to invasive cardiac procedures and on mortality after acute myocardial infarction
Article Abstract:
Low-income Canadians with heart disease are less likely to receive care and wait longer for care when they do receive it. This was the conclusion of researchers who analyzed the use of angioplasty and bypass surgery in Ontario according to median incomes of residential neighborhoods. Rates of cardiac treatment were 23% higher and waiting times were 45% shorter among those with the highest incomes compared to those with the lowest incomes. Mortality rates were also lower in the high-income group. This was true despite the fact that Canadians have universal access to health care.
