Search is on for cells that repair heart
Article Abstract:
Scientists are studying potential therapies to boost heart regeneration, which could replace heart tissue that might otherwise be left permanently damaged following injury. Many researchers are testing various adult cell types for their potential to trans-differentiate into cardiac muscle and to heal the heart and they are also working on developing different types of catheters and other cell delivery devices, as well as strategies to increase proper homing of cells.

Animal studies show stem cells' promise: Cells block blindness, restore heart rhythm
Article Abstract:
The reports revealed that stem cells could prevent vision loss in mice with a blinding eye disorder and restore heart rhythm in pigs with abnormally low heart rates using stem cell technology. The researchers concluded that stem cells injected into the eye of a mouse prevented blood vessels from degenerating and protected retinal neuronal tissue.
