Researchers seek mammography alternatives
Article Abstract:
Doctors are evaluating ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for detecting breast cancer. Mammography is not always accurate, especially in young women who have dense breasts. MRI can be accurate but it is expensive and ultrasound scans must be interpreted by a specially trained technician. More research is needed before either of these diagnostic tests can be used to diagnose breast cancer.

New ultrasound "elasticity" technique may reduce need for breast biopsies
Article Abstract:
A new ultrasound technique involving "elasticity imaging" might reduce the need for invasive biopsies to conform benign and malignant breast lesions. The success of this elasticity imaging might drastically change breast cancer detection as large numbers of women with benign lesions would not only be spared the need for biopsy but also the stressful days typically spent awaiting biopsy results.
