Residency is starting, and oh no, she's pregnant
Article Abstract:
A pregnant pediatric intern in a busy city hospital encountered an antiquated physician training system that almost forced her out of medicine. Superiors were indifferent or unsupportive, and intimidation and sabotage were common among colleagues. Inadequate childcare, lack of spousal support and grueling work requirements took their toll. In addition, patients with conditions harmful to pregnant women required treatment. The training program used young physicians as cheap labor and destroyed their idealism in the process.

IMGs can waive foreign residency requirements
Article Abstract:
International medical graduates may encounter difficulties with their visas, which are frequently J or 'exchange visitor' visas. Many of these problems stem from the fact that visitors are required to leave the US for two years after their degree is completed. However, there are several types of waivers that such medical graduates may obtain. These include the 'no objection' letter, the hardship waiver, the asylum waiver and the government agency waiver. The visa process and each of these waivers is described in detail.

Let's never forget the personal touch with patients; remembrances of a residency past
Article Abstract:
Waiting can be a trying experience, and health care personnel who keep their clients waiting should try to minimize the toll. In comparison to medical practice some forty years ago, the physician-patient relationship has not changed substantially. Patients still wait to be treated, and the diagnosis of many illnesses of the aged consists of pat phrases like 'learn to live with it.'
