Rising drug costs prompt new uses for old pills
Article Abstract:
Rising costs of drugs has led activist groups and scientists to look at new ways to recycle discarded drugs and deliver medical supplies to the needy, often in the poorest parts of the world. At least 26 states have passed laws since 2003 to create recycling programs for drugs that accumulate in healthcare institutions when people change their prescriptions get better and leave of die.

US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimated that 80% of all drugs prescribed for children have never been tested in children and are used 'off-label' for unapproved treatments. The FDA can demand that companies test certain drugs in children if a new bill approved by the US senate becomes law.
