Risk factor clustering in the insulin resistance syndrome
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine how the major components of the insulin resistance syndrome relate to each other and to macro vascular disease in American-Indians. Researchers conducted personal interviews and physical examinations on the 4,228 resident tribal members. A component containing high density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose had a positive association with coronary heart disease in diabetic women and with peripheral vascular disease in both sexes.

Associaiton of apolipoprotein E phenotype with plasma lipoproteins in African-American and white young adults
Article Abstract:
Apolipoprotein E phenotype (APOE) has been proven to be a genetic determinant of cardiovascular disease. A Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults Study was conducted in population-based samples of African-Americans and whites in the US. Data from 3,485 African-American and white men and women were used between 1992 and 1993 in this analysis. The results suggested that APOE phenotype may be a risk factor for cardiovascular among both races and sexes.

Syndrome X and mortality: a population-based study
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the prevalence of the cluster of metabolic abnormalities defined as syndrome X, which is high blood glucose, high blood pressure, low high density lipoprotein cholesterol, and high triglycerides. The study conducted in Italy indicated that the presence of a full cluster of metabolic abnormalities from syndrome X is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease and death in women and men.
