Room service
Article Abstract:
Kingston Hospital Trust has opened a 16-bed patient hotel ward, a halfway house, where hospital patients not requiring acute treatment and unable to go home can be accommodated. The unit cost 60,000 pounds sterling to set up in a closed ward at Kingston, and operating costs have been as low as 50.64 pounds sterling-per-night-per-guest, against 220 pounds sterling-per-night-per-bed in an acute treatment ward. Guests are cared for by stewards and stewardesses and stay on average just over three days. Medical staff from the hospital can be called upon in the event of a medical emergency.
