S.C. med center to appeal ruling against lease with Columbia
Article Abstract:
A proposed lease contract between the Medical University of South Carolina and Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp was found to be legal, but a court ruled that the process the university followed to obtain the lease was illegal. The Medical University plans to appeal the decision. Private physicians filed the lawsuit against the university, claiming the university failed to follow the state procurement process and special legislation permitting the lease benefitted only Columbia.
