Safety in the round
Article Abstract:
The enormous size and limited location site of the London Eye ferris wheel has contributed to the difficult task of assessing the attraction for health and safety compliance. The wheel is 135 meters high and is 122 meters across, making it one of the largest ferris wheels in the world. It is situated next to the river Thames. The complex nature of building and then siting the wheel involved a great deal of input from health and safety organisations.

Health and safety professionals' job prospects
Article Abstract:
A detailed survey of 350 UK companies found 45% had taken on new staff in the health and safety sections during 1999, while recruiting people with the right skills and qualifications were cited by 50% of those recruiting companies. Health and safety professionals tended to be selected through national advertising processes rather than dedicated recruitment consultancies. Advisers in the field of health and safety were the most sought after in 1999.

Oiling the wheels of safety
Article Abstract:
The cost of new offshore regulations could be up to 1.75 billion pounds sterling, but will improve conditions for oil workers. Regulations will include the provision by companies of temporary safe refuges (TSRs), and standards of protection will have to be demonstrated. Following the regulations will be a complete overhaul of the current laws on North Sea safety.
