School nurses' contribution to young people's future health
Article Abstract:
The nurses' role in driving the health agenda forward in the school environment and how risks around health are managed in the UK schools are discussed. The school nurses require a new strategic vision to give them the authority and capacity to bring about change and in order to implement this influential role funding is needed to recruit enough practitioners and to begin the huge task of introducing them to and preparing them for this role.

A woman who used to work as a nurse relates her experiences of returning to a hospital ward after 21 years, this time as a patient. She found that many of the challenges faced by nurses remain unchanged, although there have been improvements in some areas.
