Scientists eye embryo-free methods to derive stem cells
Article Abstract:
Scientists at the California-based Advanced Cell Technology (ACT) claimed that they had derived human embryonic stem cells from a single cell of an embryo while leaving the embryo unharmed. Fusing adult cells with stem cells which transforms the resulting hybrid to an embryonic state was more successful first with mice in 2001 and then with humans in 2005, but whether a hybrid cell's adult genome is sufficiently reprogrammed to retain its new capabilities without the embryonic DNA is unknown.

Androgen receptor outwits prostate cancer drugs
Article Abstract:
Most patients with metastatic prostate cancer receive drugs that block production of androgen-mediated cell proliferation. These drugs rarely cure cance and the solution to this resistance may lie in increase in androgen receptor constantly associated with hormone-refractory disease.
