Does This Patient Have Breast Cancer?
Article Abstract:
The clinical breast examination (CBE) may be effective if done in certain way and for a certain period of time. A survey of the medical literature found that CBE alone detected between 3% and 45% of breast cancers missed by mammography. However, its effectiveness was difficult to determine because examination techniques varied considerably. The best results were obtained by using a specific examination technique and by examining each breast for at least 3 minutes. Both doctors and laypeople improved their ability to examine breasts properly when taught these techniques on a silicone model.

Effect of a computer-based decision aid on knowledge, perceptions, and intentions about genetic testing for breast cancer susceptibility
Article Abstract:
A randomized controlled trail was conducted to compare the effectiveness of a computer-based decision aid with standard genetic counseling for educating women about BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic testing. The results revealed that both groups had comparable demographics, prior computer experience, medical literacy, and baseline knowledge of breast cancer and genetic testing, and the use of both counseling and computer were rated high.
