A world of pain: Scientists explore factors controlling pain perception
Article Abstract:
Technologies such as functional magnetic resonance imaging are helping scientists unravel the mysteries of pain perception by revealing which brain regions are responsible for various aspects of pain perception. With this information, scientists hope to selectively modulate particular brain regions with pharmacological or behavioral therapies to alleviate pain stemming from various diseases, injuries, or surgery and other treatments.
