Punctal plugs may be inserted in the tear drainage ducts by an ophthalmologist to treat dry eyes. Production of tears diminishes as a person ages. The eyes may then feel hot and gritty and appear red and swollen. Artificial tears are first prescribed. It artificial tears do not provide relief, punctal plugs may be inserted for safe and effective use.

Head noise: annoying, but rarely a sign of a serious problem

Almost 36 million Americans have some type of medical condition that causes tinnitus. Most cases are due to age-related hearing loss or damage to the inner ear from loud noise. There is no cure, but treatments include using a hearing aid and avoiding stress and irritants.
