Security report urges curfew in wards
Article Abstract:
Hospitals should have a 9 pm visitor curfew, patient areas should be locked overnight and staff should wear identification tags, according to a new UK National Health Service (NHS) security manual. The Royal College of Nursing claims that more security staff would provide a better solution, while the security recommendations will lead to patients being treated as prisoners. The manual requires managers to give priority to patient security, establish policies and review them constantly. The new proposals cost money and so are expected to be mainly ignored. Crime and violence are rising within the NHS, while charity is being relied upon to fund security measures.

Baptism of fire
Article Abstract:
Royal College of Midwives (RCM) industrial relations director, Rory Murphy has addressed new RCM stewards at an induction meeting. Murphy was deliberately provocative to stimulate the new stewards. The course covered industrial relations and employment law. Stewards practiced negotiating techniques through role-playing sessions. About 85% of midwives belong to the RCM but it will have to compete with larger health unions for hospital trust recognition.
