Should dentists become 'oral physicians'?

Article Abstract:

The advantages and disadvantages of changing the name of dentists to oral physicians are discussed. Dr. Donald B. Giddon, a clinical professor of oral and development biology Harvard School of Dental Medicine, is in favor of changing the name, as it would result in many benefits, but Dr. Leon A. Assael, a professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Oregon Health & Sciences University, comments against it as it is not an allied health profession.

Demographics and distribution of dentists in Mississippi

Article Abstract:

A dental work force study analyzing geographic distribution of dentists and relation to population demographics of MississippiEs county wise four decades data starting from 1970 to 2000 is presented. There has been a steady increase in number of dentists from 27 dentists per 100,000 people in 1970 to 37 per 100,000 people in year 2000. Counties with favorable ratio and those with shortage are also mentioned.
