Signaling pathways for cardiac hypertrophy and failure
Article Abstract:
Research on the molecular basis of heart failure may lead to effective drug treatments for the leading cause of death in the US. Drugs that block angiotensin and endothelin receptors may prevent heart enlargement. Beta blockers can inhibit overstimulation of the neurohumoral system. Other drugs can promote contraction or relaxation of heart muscle. Drugs that inhibit cell death can prevent the death of heart muscle cells.

Herceptin and the heart-a molecular modifier of cardiac failure
Article Abstract:
Trastuzumab, as adjuvant therapy for ErbB2-positive breast cancer was administered alone as the first agent and was not given concomitantly with or after agents known to be cardiotoxic, such as anthracyclines. With this regimen there were no recorded episodes of heart failure, and there was a negligible effect on base line cardiac function.
