Skin care: sun protection
Article Abstract:
Figures show that the number of cases of skin cancer in the UK have risen dramatically since 1975. Statistics reveal that some 1,200 deaths annually are caused by malignant melanomas and there are 40,000 new melanoma cases each year. Evidence suggests that children and young people are most at risk from sunburn and excessive exposure before the age of 15 has been shown to increase the chances of skin cancer in later life. Staying safe in the sun require the application of a sunscreen, keeping out of the sun when it is at its hottest, wearing a sun hat and wearing UV-filtering sunglasses.
