Fighter pilots
Article Abstract:
The UK nursing profession had to fight for the privilege to submit bids to run community health pilot schemes under the National Health Service (Primary Care) Act, yet only eight of the 200 bids submitted were nurse-led. Successful bids will be announced on Dec 20 1997. One of the bids for a nurse-led scheme concerns a single-handed practice for which the health trust had been unable to find a replacement general practitioner (GP). A nurse has applied to run the practice with the help of a part-time GP, and under the medical directorship of a nearby full-time GP.
