Small loans yield big health profits
Article Abstract:
Project HOPE, a Virginia based non-profit organization offers small loans to collectives comprising of twenty HIV affected women in Malawi, Thailand, which should hopefully provide them with means to support themselves. The program, started in 1993 has helped around fifty thousand women and the Malawi branch is self-sufficient but the organization knows that there is still a long way to go.

Pay-for-performance research: How to learn what clinicians and policy makers need to know
Article Abstract:
Various health schemes, employer partnerships and government buyers are promoting numerous pay-for-performance drives to enhance the quality of health care offered. In this connection, four basic aspects of research, which need to be tackled through techniques developed by investigators and research funders, are explained.

States' health care budgets faltering
Article Abstract:
In fiscal year 2003, states fell a collective $70 billion short of their Medicaid and State Children's Insurance Program (SCHIP) obligations. In response to this, state legislatures raided reserves, cut services, and tightened eligibility requirements.
