Small-market insurance bill raises risk, insolvency issues
Article Abstract:
Rep Harris Fawell (R-IL) will introduce legislation to enable small companies to join together to self insure as large corporations did under the 1974 Employee Retirement Income and Security Act. This legislation enables companies to escape state insurance regulations and offer cost saving benefits to their employees. These operations are called multiple employer welfare arrangements.

Several insurance companies are suing the state of Kentucky to prevent the implementation of its insurance reform law. The insurance companies claim insurance policy costs will increase and more people will become uninsured. The state counters this argument that more people can buy more affordable insurance since the implementation of insurance reform.
