Sore points
Article Abstract:
Pressure sores will be suffered by 3-5% of all patients staying in hospital, with the problem being particularly acute among elderly people. Factors such as poor nutrition, continuous pressure and friction have traditionally been regarded as the main causes of pressure sores, but it is also possible that hospital sheets are responsible, as pressure sores are much more common among hospital patients than among those cared for at home. Hard and patched surfaces on the sheets can damage a patient's skin, as can the finish produced by the hospital's laundering process and the detergents used by the hospital. Typical hospital washing procedures are considered.

Growing old in Greece
Article Abstract:
Many elderly people in Greece do not receive any pension or health care from the state, although there has been a rise in the aged population in recent years. Some hospitals have started day care programs for the elderly to relieve the pressure on hospital beds. There is a lack of skilled staff, and the training of geriatric nurses has yet to be initiated, although it has been discussed. It is recognized that pensions need to be raised and medical care improved, particularly in villages where there are no medical facilities at all.
