Finding their own way
Article Abstract:
In an effort to help improve the practice of nurses involved in providing services for the elderly, South East Thames Regional Health Authority has been awarding two or three senior studentships each year to practising nurses. The studentships involve studying topics associated with the practice of caring for the elderly in hospital or in the community and have been awarded to 24 nurses to date. The studentships require independent, individual study and are felt to have made a significant contribution to the personal development of the nurses who have been awarded them.

Under debate
Article Abstract:
Nurse education courses should include the teaching of debating skills. Debating encourages critical analysis. It assists the formation of logical ideas and effective organisation of facts. Participation in debates will improve communication skills. It will give nurses confidence to express their attitudes on professional matters of concern.
