Specialists are the future
Article Abstract:
Mixed views are being expressed in the UK about the role of specialist nurses. Some observers believe that specialist nurses can make a significant contribution to the National Health Service, especially in the development of nursing practice. The specialist nurse role also provides opportunities for nurses who do not wish to become managers. In contrast, others feel that specialist nurses, although they supplement general nursing care, are not the future. They believe that attention should focus on offering career development opportunities for nurses who wish to remain directly involved in patient care.

Article Abstract:
The changing pattern of community nursing in the UK has meant patients with bowel dysfunctions are treated by a wide range of professionals on a multidisciplinary basis. The main aim of bowel management is to develop a routine voiding pattern which can be maintained by the individual either by themselves or with the help of a carer. The debilitating nature of bowel function problems must be dealt with on both a physical and psychological level, with those involved in the management process offering support and positive counselling.
