Article Abstract:
Nurses have to realize that they have a professional accountability including the legal aspects of health care. If the nurses are aware of main legal issues affecting nursing and always apply these to the job, in terms of good nursing care, good advocacy, the right treatment and the right documentation in the best of the nursing ability under the terms of the code of conduct, one would be safe.

The findings of the report by the Standing Nursing and Midwifery Advisory Committee on care which the aged receive in hospitals are considered. The occupation of hospital beds by the aged and the poor provisions for their care are discussed.

A pilot study, commissioned by the Department of Health, is conducted to discover how much time nurses spend on clerical and administrative tasks. Few guidelines to reduce paperwork are presented.
