Steady-state levels of aquaporin 1 mRNA expression are increased in idiopathic polyhydramnios
Article Abstract:
Placentas were collected from women at term who presented with either polyhydramnios or normal amniotic fluid (AF) volume for hypothesizing that in pregnancies with idiopathic polyhydramnios, AQP1 expression might be reduced in fetal membranes from pregnancies with the AF volume disorder. The result showed that AQP1 expression is increased in polyhydramnios thus suggesting that alterations in AQP1 expression might be a compensatory response to and not a case of idiopathic polyhydramnios.

Cloning and cellular expression of aquaporin 9 in ovine fetal membranes
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted in which the expression of ovine aquaporins 9 (AQP9) in fetal membranes were to cloned and characterized. The presence of significant AQP9 messenger RNA and protein expression in ovine fetal membranes suggests that AQP9 may be a major channel for intramembranous amniotic fluid resorption in sheep.

A novel model of polyhydramnios: Amniotic fluid volume is increased in aquaporin 1 knockout mice
Article Abstract:
The hypothesis that amniotic fluid volume is increased in aquaporin 1 knockout mice is tested. The findings show that aquaporin 1 water channels in fetal membranes may contribute to amniotic fluid volume regulation.
