Unintended consequences of caps on Medicare drug benefits
Article Abstract:
The effects of a US$1,000 cap on annual drug benefits in Medicare and Choice beneficiaries aged 65 years and over were investigated by comparing them with a concurrent control group whose benefits were unlimited due of employer supplements. Results indicated that limits on drug benefits had consistently negative consequences, with capped benefits being associated with lower drug consumption and unfavorable clinical outcomes.
