Stem cell aging: What bleach can teach
Article Abstract:
A study to significantly advance the understanding of how the reactive oxygen species (ROS) might affect the aging of the hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) is presented. It is found that a rise in hydrogen peroxide, the active ingredient in household bleach stimulates a pathway that causes stem cells to exit from their normal quiescent state and this oxidant-induced proliferation eventually induces HSC exhaustion.

Alchemy in the liver: fact or fusion?
Article Abstract:
Signs of donor cells appear in the liver of recipients after bone marrow transplantation. While two studies support the notion that these cells arise through cellular fusion with the liver, a third study reveals that donor cells differentiate directly into liver cells.

To be or notch to be
Article Abstract:
This article discusses research conducted on the Notch1 pathway, which allows the hematopoietic stem cell compartment to be immortalized. The author states the immortalized cells can respond to growth and develop into myeloid and lymphoid lineages.
