Step up the pressure
Article Abstract:
The turnout for the UKCC elections is usually poor, however, the nursing unions are campaigning vigorously for votes because the elected council will wield considerable power over the the future of the nursing profession. Unison and the RCN are competing against each other to win seats, and Unison is taking out advertisements and printing leaflets to spread its message. The main difference between the two bodies is their stance on the deregulation of nursing. Unison wants to introduce NVQs as part of the nursing qualification while the RCN is opposed to the idea.

A day on the draft
Article Abstract:
Nurse Claire Jackson has forsaken her clinical role to take up the post of recruitment project nurse. She finds this post varied and challenging. It includes media interviews, the seeking of sponsorship and support for the recruitment campaign, and investigation of nursing agencies. It also involves working with structures which support nursing recruitment and retention including child care providers and programmes concerning the international transfer of qualifications.
