Positive changes
Article Abstract:
A disruptive elderly patient, displaying signs of dementia, caused problems for care staff and unsettled other residents by shouting, swearing and defecating around the building. Challenging him directly made the behaviour worse, so the staff agreed to praise any good behaviour and reassure him if he behaved inappropriately. Nursing staff were honest with him and told him how they felt when he abused them. Other residents became used to him and gradually he was accepted by residents and staff alike.

And so to beds
Article Abstract:
Greater liaison between nurses, bed manufacturers and patients is needed in the purchasing of beds, to reduce bedsores. Serious bedsores each cost around 40,000 pounds sterling to the UK National Health Service, according to the King's Fund, which has published guides on purchasing beds. The Fund's research indicates that there is inadequate information on the use of beds, and that a lack of comparative information on products available result in staff being unable to make an informed choice.
