Straight talk
Article Abstract:
The adoption of a direct information and education approach to teaching Uganda's population about ways to avoid the spread of HIV and AIDs has been a success for the Straight Talk Foundation which was established in 1993. Young girls in Uganda are often uneducated and ill-informed about sex, making it difficult for them to practise safe sex precautions, which are the best methods to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDs. The foundation encourages girls to stay on at school for as long as possible and avoid early marriage.

Article Abstract:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair made a number of statements at a nursing awards ceremony in Sep 1998 which have received the media attention they were probably intended to attract. However, they had little substance. Blair's promises included the delivery of 15,000 more nurses by Jul 1999 but he gave no details on how he would achieve this. He also promised to consider the introduction of nurse consultant posts, which is welcome recognition, but said that establishment of senior posts would depend on pay settlements.
