Stretched to ... breaking point
Article Abstract:
Nurses give details of situations where they have felt under a lot of stress and have been unable to do their jobs properly, either because of staff shortages or because senior staff did not give adequate medication to patients, or they did not show respect for patients. The six nurses feel very stressed that no-one listens to them when they complain and they get no support from their line managers. The nurses have no-one to talk to about their anxieties, and this worsens their stress.

Article Abstract:
A nurse from an intensive care unit and one from an accident and emergency department decided to swap jobs for two months so they could broaden their range of skills and expertise. The nurses arranged the exchange by themselves and feel they gained valuable knowledge about the skills needed in the other departments. The experience provided them with a challenge and both the nurses are glad they did the swap.
