A stressful role
Article Abstract:
Specialist nurses have stressful jobs, but management work, and not nursing care, is the main cause of stress. Specialist nursing roles include innovative ones, which have not yet been properly defined, so nurses, such as those in oncology, have to define their own job descriptions. Such roles often involve overlap between traditional jobs, and therefore nurses cannot identify with a peer group clearly. This also means that they cannot fit into a professional hierarchy easily. Research shows, however, that mentorship and supervision are important in supporting specialist nurses in their new roles.

Beating time
Article Abstract:
Improved organisational skills allow more time for nurse-patient interaction. A study of nurses' behaviour has indicated possible improvements. Eliminating unnecessary tasks and improving communication methods saves time. Calm and methodical task fulfillment saves energy. Nurses should display initiative and not delay carrying out tasks. They should make use of available resources.
