Article Abstract:
A nursing student describes how there was little student representation when he joined the University of Wales school of nursing. He recounts the help and encouragement received from director of pre-registration studies Christine Morris, in forming the Archimedes Society to approach the students' union. Christine Morris recalls how the students' union in Bangor did not give the same amount of time to students at the school of nursing. She believes that students can develop strategies to make changes, so that they are in a more powerful position when they become qualified.

Blood mothers
Article Abstract:
Cord blood is usually discarded along with the placenta, however it contains a similar amount of stem cells as bone marrow, and can be used in transplantation. It does not have to be stringently matched with the recipient's tissue type. The London Cord Blood Bank (LCBB) provides a collection service and has a procedure for recruiting mothers. The aim is to provide an ethnically diverse pool of units.
