Potentiation of Vitamin K Antagonists by High-Dose Intravenous Methylprednisolone
Article Abstract:
Patients who are taking anticoagulants and methylprednisolone should be monitored very closely. In a study of 10 patients taking both drugs and 5 taking methylprednisolone alone, those taking both drugs had prolonged blood clotting times. This means that it took longer for their blood to clot.

Parvovirus B19 infection, hepatitis C virus infection, and mixed cryoglobulinaemia
Article Abstract:
Parvovirus B19 does not appear to be cause of mixed cryoglobulinemia (MC). MC is a disorder characterized by an inflammation of small and medium blood vessels and excessive levels of antibodies in the blood. Researchers tested 28 patients with MC and 36 patients with hepatitis C for antibodies against parvovirus B19. Half of the hepatitis C patients also had MC. Seventy-two percent of the 64 patients had antibodies against parvovirus B19, which is close to the value (60%) in the general population. Patients without MC were just as likely to have antibodies against the virus as those with MC.
