TQM (positive) and safety management (negative) says report
Article Abstract:
The HSE has published a research report on Total Quality Management and the Management of Health and Safety. It was found that TQM principles were applied less to health and safety management than to the key business process, apart from those in companies where health and safety was clearly seen and accepted as important for overall business success. Applying process management and performance measurement skills to health and safety management would lead to greater integration of health and safety management within TQM.

Fatalities up, prosecutions and inspections down: HSC Chairman admits that while HSE staff 'bust a gut to keep the quality of work up', reduced funding is taking its toll
Article Abstract:
The HSE has been criticised by the Institute of Employment Rights, for a decline in the number of accidents investigated. The Institute wants to see the system of enforcement improved. HSE director general Jenny Bacon has spoken of trying to find a balance within an increasingly limited budget, in response to the criticism. HSC chairman Frank Davies noted his concern about the increase in worker fatalities, and confirmed his believe that responsibility lies with those in industry.
