Taking stock of PPMs

Many doctors sold their practices to physician practice management companies (PPMs) in the summer of 1996, as many publicly traded PPMs were offering high earnings. However, there has been a downturn in investor confidence in PPMs for a variety of factors. Investors must be realistic about finances, look for experienced management, seek a good fit, and learn everything they can about a PPM prior to investing in a PPM's stock.

Smoking cessation guidelines successful - if used
Article Abstract:
Health care professionals can have tremendous influence on patients who smoke, according to the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research. The government agency published a set of smoking cessation practice parameters for physicians in early 1996. The guidelines call for physicians to ask patients if they smoke and offer appropriate behavioral therapies and nicotine replacement strategies.
