Taking their own lives--The high rate of physician suicide
Article Abstract:
Suicide rates among doctors are higher than those in the general population although physicians tend to have healthier lifestyles than those of the general public. A prevalent view is that both biologic and psychological factors play a role and interact in the decision to commit suicide and it seems that the higher suicide rate among physicians is related to both their relatively free access to drugs and their medical knowledge.
