Tax law changes affect value of physician practices
Article Abstract:
Two tax law changes may greatly reduce the market for physician practices by making it much more difficult for tax-exempt hospitals to purchase practices. Rules enacted in Aug 1996 and retroactive to 1995 will restrict "excess-benefit" transactions with insiders by charging an excise tax of up to 200%. A set of proposed rules will heavily tax transactions in which tax-exempt organizations purchase taxable corporations.

Hospital partnership requires shared vision
Article Abstract:
Respect and communications are the key components of successful ventures between physicians and hospitals. Both parties should clearly define their motives and objectives before entering a managing partnership. Hospitals should make concerted efforts to address practice-management issues as well as understand the operational and economic issues involved in running a private practice.
