Teaching the Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantitation system
Article Abstract:
A brief video describing the Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantitation system (POP-Q) appears to be effective in teaching obstetric and gynecology residents and medical students about the system. POP-Q is a system allowing gynecologists to accurately measure pelvic organ prolapse, which occurs when pelvic organs descend into the vagina. Researchers tested 51 OB/GYN residents and medical students before and after they watched a 17-minute video describing POP-Q. The residents and students exhibited an average 33% increase in their scores after watching the video.

Incidence of recurrent cystocele after anterior colporrhaphy with and without concomitant transvaginal needle suspension
Article Abstract:
Bladder herniations appear more likely to recur with vaginal repair surgery including transvaginal needle suspension than with vaginal repair surgery alone. A chart review of 27 patients having vaginal repair surgery alone and 40 patients having transvaginal needle bladder neck suspension as well revealed that 7% of the vaginal repair alone group had a recurrence of bladder herniation versus one-third of the vaginal repair plus needle suspension group. Injuries due to the surgical procedure itself may account for this difference.

The anatomic and functional outcomes of defect-specific rectocele repairs
Article Abstract:
Defect-specific repair of a rectocele in women is equal or superior to traditional posterior colporrhaphy, according to a study of 125 patients. A rectocele occurs when the wall of the rectum protrudes into the vagina.
