The AIDS Net: HIV/AIDS Resources on the World Wide Web
Article Abstract:
The Internet is one of the best places to locate information on fast-moving research areas such as HIV infection and AIDS. As of November 9, 1998, Yahoo listed approximately 650 sites devoted to AIDS and Alta Vista listed more than 1.2 million pages mentioning HIV or AIDS. Sites include the AIDS Clinical Trials Information Service, the AIDS Education Global Information System (AEGIS), information from the CDC, the FDA and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the University of California, San Francisco's HIV InSite, the Johns Hopkins AIDS Service and JAMA's HIV/AIDS Information Center.

A privacy primer for the Web: spam, bread crumbs, and cookies
Article Abstract:
Several privacy concerns have arisen due to the widespread use of the World Wide Web. Many Web sites capture a visitor's userID and may then sell that name to a mailing list. The user will then receive unsolicited junk e-mail, a process called spamming. Web browser programs keep records of all sites visited and anyone with access to that computer can read these files. Many Web browsers also download information such as passwords needed to access various Web sites. These so-called "cookies" make it easy for the user to logon again in the future, but Web administrators can also change the cookie file.
