The cost of mental health problems to business
Article Abstract:
Research for the Health Education Authority (HEA) undertaken by the Centre for the Economics of Mental Health, Institute of Psychiatry, shows that mental health problems cost more than 32 billion pounds sterling a year to the English economy. The HEA wants employers to help prevent and reduce stress in the workplace by undertaking a Mental Health Impact Statement, introducing employee friendly policies, rewarding good performance and offering employment opportunities for those who have experienced mental health problems.

Workplace breath test
Article Abstract:
The new Alcohol Breath Test is said to be an approved way of measuring blood alcohol concentration and has been developed to help combat alcohol-related workplace problems. The Alco-check provides instant breath alcohol readings and has been tested and calibrated to the same strict standards as the Home Office Approved units, used by the British police. Surveys shows that one in 10 employees are affected regularly by alcohol, costing British industry around 1.7 billion pounds sterling a year.
