The discovery of HIV as the cause of AIDS
Article Abstract:
Two of the scientists who independently discovered HIV recount the discoveries that led to the conclusion that HIV was the cause of AIDS. The discovery of human T cell leukemia virus (HTLV) proved that a virus could infect T cells. In fact, the first AIDS patients were thought to be infected with HTLV. But researchers discovered a new virus that was only distantly related to HTLV.
