The economics of infertility: developing an infertility managed-care plan
Article Abstract:
A managed health care plan can be devised to cover infertility services, with costs shared by patients, physicians, and insurers. Such a managed care plan may reduce the costs of infertility services and regulate use of resources while increasing the number of resulting pregnancies. The use of infertility resources should focus more on assisted reproductive techniques such as in vitro fertilization and less on expensive gynecologic surgery. The cause of infertility may be unimportant if a successful pregnancy can be achieved. Therefore, physicians specializing in infertility need to prove their success in enabling pregnancies while using as few resources as possible. Some funds should be channelled into research to provide for future improvements in infertility services.

Iatrogenic secondary infertility caused by residual intrauterine fetal bone after midtrimester abortion
Article Abstract:
Infertility following a previous pregnancy may sometimes be caused by residual fetal bony tissue from a previous midtrimester abortion. Researchers used ultrasound examinations to detect bony fragments inside the uterus of 11 women with secondary infertility. All of the women had undergone an uneventful midtrimester abortion before they experienced infertility. Dilation and curettage (D&C) to remove the bony fragments revealed that they were from the aborted fetus. Three women required more than one D&C to remove all the bone fragments. Ten of the 11 women became pregnant and delivered infants after treatment.
