The last resort
Article Abstract:
The number of people in the UK who have neurosurgery for mental disorder is around 30 a year. These people are mainly suffering from depression or obsessive compulsive disorder. There are many ethical difficulties associated with psychosurgery, particularly the issue of the status of consent given by people suffering from serious mental illness. Some observers believe that psychosurgery can significantly benefit patients who have not responded to other treatments. However, others feel that psychosurgery should be outlawed.

Balancing acts
Article Abstract:
David Weeks, clinical psychologist at the Jardine Clinic, Royal Edinburgh Hospital tested a group of agoraphobics and found a high number of balance and eye disorders. Weeks carried out experiments that showed that exercises could cure the eye and balance disorders and ease the agoraphobia. The tests produced similar results to work carried out by Peter Blythe, neuro-developmental therapist, who claims that around 70% of agoraphobics have nervous system disorders.
