The pitfalls of practice nursing
Article Abstract:
Medical risk management involves identifying the most common areas of practice failure to ensure procedures are set up to prevent problems occurring. About 50% of all medical negligence claims involved commonly practiced nursing procedures. Ear syringing accounted for 19% of all claims settled by the Medical Defence Union from 1993 to 1998, while injections accounted for 22% of claims. Poor technique was found to be the most common reason for nursing staff failing to carry out ear syringes properly, with too much pressure and faulty equipment also being cited.
